When Ryan and I recently moved into another neighborhood, little did we know just how wonderful our neighbors would be -- let alone how awesome our particular block would be. Every month all my neighbors get together for a casual block party, and every quarter it is a potluck block party. I can't tell you just how nice it is to be able to hang out with the people you live next door to, get to know each other on a regular basis, and socialize the old-fashioned way in your own backyard (or in our case, a shared park). Just last weekend we enjoyed our first ever quarterly block party and it did not disappoint. To make it extra fun, we all chipped in and rented a bouncy house for the kids. I meant, a bouncy CASTLE...with a slide! And I suppose it was also meant for the kids "of all ages" (Ryan!)... I brought lumpia (Filipino crispy spring rolls) that my mom helped me make as my dish for the party (thanks, Ma!). And we all tried our best to beat the heat with umbrellas, tents, sunblock, ice pops, cold adult beverages, and a kiddie splash pool (also with slide). But I think we succeeded just by being the COOLEST block ever. :)
