Whistler Olympic Park, CanadaAhhh, the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games are on right now and what perfect timing for me to share with you some of the photos I took at Whistler Olympic Park (site of the 2010 games). I took these when I went along with my husband on his business trip to Vancouver, Canada, last April. I have been wanting to show you these ever since then but I figured I would be patient until now. Heck, I had already waited four years for these Winter Olympics, might as well. And talk about perfect timing, we just happened to be there when the Olympic cauldron in downtown Vancouver was rarely lit for a special event one night. Until our visit, it had not been lit since the 2010 Winter Games were hosted there! We were so excited to see these flames in person! What an experience to be so close. It was quite warm and toasty standing underneath it. All I was missing were giant marshmallows.
We also had perfect timing for the one day we drove out to Whistler Olympic Park (about two hours north of the city)...
...as the "World Ski and Snowboard Festival" just happened to be going on! Talk about being at the right place at the right time. This is their annual spring festival that celebrates snow sports, music, art, and mountain life -- which explained why we were seeing so many people dressed up in crazy outfits!
Especially as if it were the '80s -- we were like, "WHHHAAAT. Did we just step inside the Hot Tub Time Machine? (Did you ever see this movie? I love John Cusack!) No, we were really more like, "WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOOT, EH?!" Hahahaha!!! And who is this guy in the left supposed to be? Is this what they call "steampunk?" But then we eventually saw signs and banners, and realized, "Oh, okay. Ski and snowboard festival. Got it. Whew." OH CANADA. You sure did have me there for a second. These guys saw me pointing my camera at them and gave me this shot -- LOLOLOL! Love it! Being a Floridian, I was truly fascinated by all of the ski boots, equipment and skiiers. I love how their brightly colored clothes just "pop" against all of the white snow... And boy, was there SO. MUCH. SNOW. (In other words, weather in America lately. Except, of course, Florida). Everywhere we looked -- from inside, outside, and in any direction. SNOW!!! It was so thrilling to me! (Again, I'm from Florida). We didn't do any skiing nor snowboarding, but we did ride the Peak 2 Peak gondola. It is an engineering marvel that spans between the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. This thing breaks THREE world records! Including having the longest unsupported span of approximately 3.024 kilometers between two towers -- that's almost two miles! My husband (right) making new friends. Would you be scared to ride this thing?! I mean, just look how far up you are in the air and from reaching the next tower -- which you can't even see in the picture below! We were definitely relieved when we got back to the ground, which surprise surprise, was just more snow. CANADIAN snow. So now that I have finally shared with you these pictures and ended on this particular one, let me end on these two words. "Go USA!!!!!!!!!" Oh and 21 more in the form of a question and then an emoticon: "my husband is soon going to Paris for work and guess who is tagging along (again) and taking TONSSS of pictures?" :) Comments
